In the same manner we adopt the DETOX diets by eating foods with a high level of toxin removal from the body, it is necessary to also adopt treatments to eliminate toxins absorbed by the hair.

FIBER DTOX is an active developed for detoxification treatments, with a high level of removal of metallic ions and other toxins absorbed by the hair surface.

According to some authors, the hair is a “biological dosimeter” or a “environment mirror” where the individual has been exposed. This is due to the hair being capable of absorbing chemical substances when exposed to them for a certain amount of time.

The hair fibers are capable of absorbing toxic substances present at polluted environments. These substances can, once attached to the hair, cause severe damage to the fiber structure. Even the treated water used by us to shower contains heavy metals in its composition, which accumulate in the hair throughout time.

When the hair fiber has already suffered a chemical attack, such as discoloring or dying, it becomes even more porous and reactive, aggravating the problem.

The following table shows the copper levels found in virgin and discolored hair samples, and demonstrates that the virgin hair can accumulate a copper amount 10 times higher than what is found in tap water. When the hair has suffered a chemical attack, its capacity of heavy metals absorption increases to 100 times more.

Metals, Fenton reactions and hair structure

In 1894 the scientist H. Fenton discovered that certain metals in the presence of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) can act as catalysts to generate highly reactive hydroxyl radicals (fig. 1).

When the hair shows toxic metals accumulation such as copper or iron and is treated with products that contain oxygenated water (dyes, brightening, lights), these metals catalyze the free radicals generation that attack the hair fibers, destroying its natural defenses. Since metals are preferably absorbed in the cuticle, the main attack by free radicals occurs on the surface, removing the 18-methyl eicosanoic acid linked to the F layer and damaging its structure (fig. 2).

To prevent structural damage and ensure its integrity, it is necessary to remove these metals from the hair surface, in a fiber detoxification process.

FIBER DTOX combines natural molecules obtained from four different plants, each one with specific capture, cleansing and poluent removal habilities for the hair surface.

FIBER DTOX is recommended for hair pre-wash products that are exposed to oxygenated water such as dyes, brightening, lights and locks.
